What is Botox Cosmetic®?
Botox is one of the most popular, non-surgical methods available for eliminating facial wrinkles. Its effect is to relax the muscles involved in creating the wrinkle.

What is involved in a Botox treatment?
The process is very simple. During consultation with the clinician, you discuss the results you want to achieve. Your facial muscles will be examined to determine the number of Botox units required to achieve your desired results. The Botox is injected 3-6 times using a micro-fine needle. The entire process takes about 10 minutes.

Does it hurt?
Botox is injected directly into the muscle that underlies the dynamic wrinkle. The injection feels like a small prick with a little stinging. If there is minor discomfort an ice pack may be applied.

Will I see results immediately?
No. Most patients see results within 3-5 days. However, it can take up to two weeks before the muscles treated become relaxed enough to see results. For this reason, it is recommended to contract the treated muscles several times a day to instigate results.

How long will the results last?
The effect usually lasts 4-6 months

Are there any side effects? For those with very sensitive skin or prone to bruising, slight bruising around the treatment area may occur. Very rarely, complications such as ptosis or drooping of the eyelid can occur.

What if bruising occurs?
Bruising can be cosmetically concealed by using “green” concealer make up, followed by a foundation of normal skin color. These bruises usually resolve within a few days. Another option is the application of Vitamin K or Arnica creams, which may speed resolution of bruises. These products are available at our med spa or local drug store.

How should I prepare for my treatment?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to fill out required forms. If you have any additional questions about Botox or any other services we can address them at that time. 

What about after the treatment?
With Botox there is no down time, you may go directly to work or continue on with your day as usual. You don't want to massage the treated area(s) and you don't want to go directly to bed, where you may be putting pressure on treated area.

I see ads offering $99 Botox– is this safe?
Your appearance is too important to take chances with. Because Botox is mixed with a saline solution, some doctors may over-dilute the Botox leading to a less effective and shorter-lasting result.
